A Rifts RPG Adventure
The adventurers are in Stormspire. While looking to buy, repair, and even sell Techno-Wizard devices, armor and/or weapons, the adventurers come upon a Rogue Scientist named Doctor Sepple Lansford. Sepple is trying to buy equipment and provisions for an expedition he’s planning. But Sepple is being harassed and bullied by a group of City Rats. The City Rats are Juicer Wannabes, lead by Leaper, the largest of the three boys. He’s followed by Frosty and Trapp. All three work for an unprincipled Cyber Doctor named Doctor Miya Downs.
Dr. Downs isn’t interested in Dr. Lansford.
She isn’t interested in him or his research. She believes that he’s in possession of a piece of equipment or a device and she wants it. She had a psychic premonition that told her that Dr. Lansford has the device or is about to find the device.
Stepping up isn’t always the safest choice, but it is the right choice.
If the adventurers interfere while in the market, Dr. Lansford will hire them as his Bodyguards. His expedition is an investigation of alien animals that have migrated into the Magic Zone. He calls these animals ‘Fesnats’ because he thinks the name is cute. Fesnats is a marsupial dog species with short yellow fur. Males have bright red stripes, and the females have grey spots over the shoulders and a small main around their neck and between their front shoulders. Their population seems to be increasing, but there don’t seem to be any new pups. Pups are carried in pouches found on both males and females. Fesnats can also see in the electromagnetic spectrum and prefer to live near swamps and bogs. They are non-aggressive, unless threatened, hungry, or while hunting.
On his expedition, Dr. Lansford will come upon a cave where the Fesnats travel when sick or injured. In the cave are jasper outcroppings and a small methane pool in which the Fesnats bathe to recuperate. Deeper in the cave is a small device, the size of a household appliance. The device is a fusion reactor of alien design. It could be Neeman or alien in nature. The reactor has a tritium core that is nearly depleted and in its current condition, it creates a maximum output of 3 gigawatts of power but is regulated to 1.5 gigawatts to prolong the core’s fusion reaction.

The Pay-off.
Dr. Lansford is the son of Sinje Lansford, co-owner of ‘The Grand Square’, a large plaza at the heart of Stormspire. The Lansford family is one of the wealthiest families in Stormspire with connections to K’Zaa, the Lizard Mage who owns and controls Stormspire. Should the juicer Wannebes learn of his connection to K’zaa, their loyalty will shift from Downs to Lansford, in hope of being converted to a Dragon Juicer.
To find the cave, the group will have to witness an attack on the Fesnats. The Fesnats are endangered through overhunting – K’Zaa has a small group of poachers hunting them, as vermin. A group of Wilderness Scouts hunt them for their fur.
(Or the Game-Master can have the marsupials be attacked by an evasive supernatural monster.)
