Think about all the areas you have to explore and make up. We can see with maps what the land looks like on Rifts Earth, yet it’s covered far more by water. There is so much unexplored underwater that you can create all sorts of places to have adventures. I’m usually not a big fan of underwater settings just because it’s so foreign, but if you played it similar to what the Aquaman setting is like then Id really likes it.
Essentially, allowing for movement up and down without any real concern for physics or reality about it. Also if you disregard mostly water breathing and lack of air in favor of just having fun it would help a lot for creating fun without getting bogged down in mechanics.
This world book describes an entire area of the world or at least helps outline a good portion of it. So for a GM(game master) it gives setting information, new races in the area, their attitudes, and disposition to the outside world. Lastly, there are some rules that can be used to describe underwater combat including changes to existing land weapon types.
Rifts world book 32 Player Material
There are a lot of new spells, OCCs, armor, weapons, etc that players get. One of my favorites is the Chitin Bio-Armor, it looks so cool. It is basically medium power armor but has a really menacing look that just exudes.. well.. power. Take a look at yourself and tell me what you think. Additional material for players includes aquatic skills, races of note, transportation options, and more.
Story material in rifts world book 32 Lemuria
The story of the Lemurians is tied fairly directly with the Atlanteans of the past. When things went awry for the Atlanteans and Atlantis was torn from the world, life for the Lemurians changed almost overnight. Much of their society was founded on the use of magic energy, which they called planet energy. When Atlantis disappeared so did the magic energy. They were not killed off due to this but had to adapt.
While magic was reduced so drastically as to be nearly none existent, other creatures like dragons and demons still stayed on Earth. For thousands of years, they haunted, hunted, or battled humanity until they were finally killed. The Lemurian cities that floated began to drop below the waves, and machines working on earth energy slowed and stopped, just to name a few.
Prior to the loss of Atlantis, and to this day in fact, the Lemurians spent much time and energy fighting a major world threat called the Lord of the Deep. It became trapped on Earth in a sleeping state when the magic dropped, while after the Rifts he has awoken. They still consider it to be their natural enemy and fight his plans.
This is just part of the story available in Rifts world book 32, have a look and enjoy.
Originality of world book 32
I think that the setting was well done, though I think it had some inspiration from existing comics like Aquaman. Now that’s not bad, in fact, I really like the movie and character. I’m just saying it’s not a purely original seeming setting. It is, however, a great Rifts version of said setting and I like it a lot since Rifts is supposed to be a megaversal setting. This means that any other game setting you think of could be part of Rifts somewhere in some fashion.
How game-breaking is Rifts world book 32
From my reading, I wouldn’t list this book as being game-breaking. For the most part, you are going to keep a lot of what goes on in the ocean separate from what’s happening on land. That said I also think that the bio-armor could be used as a template for players. We already have heard the idea in science fiction of nano-technology(and it exists in Rifts dimension books), so Bio-Armor could be a version that you could offer to players as a reward. Or you could call it something else that players could receive and it could grow as they leveled or something to that effect.
If you truly want game-breaking, check Rifts Conversion Book Two Pantheons of the Megaverse Review.
How good are the OCCs in Rifts Lemuria
I’m torn on how to respond to this. The description of the Bio-Gene Mage says that the magic is super strong and it’s a really powerful magic class. However, in practice and through spell descriptions I find more limitations with the spells than I do practical use of them. When I start visualizing a spell, item, class, etc, as a bunch of numbers or restrictions it breaks the appeal to play it.
That’s just one example of how things are described and not all of them are this way. Overall though I would say the OCCs in the book are good, not great, not bad, but good.
How well does Lemuria mix with the core book
This book mixes very well in terms of helping give more area to explore on Rifts Earth. In terms of you using it with forces and challenges in the Ultimate Edition, very unlikely. The Coalition is basically landlocked so they aren’t going to be dealing with the ocean depths any time soon. The Federation of magic, the black market, and others are essentially the same.
